President Donald Trump’s advisers say he is the best person to lead the nation’s communications apparatus and said the next administration should not make a big deal out of it.
Trump’s top communications adviser and former campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said Monday that he wants the White House to start making a bigger deal out in the media about the need to hire a “transition team” to replace Priebus.
In an interview on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” Conway said that the next president should not be making a big issue out of the media.
“It is not going to be something that we’re going to make a major deal out about.
It is going to happen,” Conway told host Bret Baier.”
We have a transition team and we have a plan, and we’re doing that now.
And we’re putting the plan out, and the plan is going very well,” she added.”
The plan is to start building up the communications infrastructure.
We’re going, for example, to do an all-hands conference call with the people who are on the ground in Syria and Iraq and Afghanistan, where we have the intelligence community, to talk about what the new strategy is going forward,” she said.
“And it is a strategy that is going well, and it is not just going to sit there.”
Trump himself told the Associated Press last month that the White, which has been trying to convince him to take a more active role in the communications operation, is “not doing very well.”
Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the media “has to be treated like a business, a newspaper.
And that is not the media.””
I don’t like the press, and I’m not going anywhere,” Trump said at the time.
Trump has made the issue of the communications team a focal point in his administration’s messaging.
During the first presidential debate, he accused the press of being “fake news” and said that “if I were a media person, I’d fire all the reporters in the country.”
But Conway said Monday on Fox that Trump’s administration is not trying to take on the media by taking on the communications staff.
“There is no one in the White of the United States of America who is not working with the media and with the other administration to get the information out,” she told Baier on “America Newsroom.”
“They are not doing this to me, they are doing this because they think they are going to take this to the media, and they’re not,” she continued.
“I think the president believes that he can take on everything in this country.
And this is just not going out of bounds.”
But some Republicans, like Rep. Mike Pompeo, have expressed concerns about the way Trump has been using his executive authority to fire senior staff and to appoint new officials.
On Tuesday, Pompeo tweeted that Trump “has not even been around long enough to have the luxury of hiring a transition group.”
He added: “I do not understand why the president has been willing to engage in a PR war with the press when the facts don’t support that claim.”
